Young Professionals > YP Training > Current Programme

The programme's objective is to engage young potential managers in the discussion of management issues, to develop new approaches, leadership skills and intercultural understanding and to become acquainted with the FIDIC activities through participation in the FIDIC Annual Conference.

Programme contents

The programme has an initial Internet-based component over a seven-month period prior to the FIDIC 2012 Seoul Conference. In connection with the conference, there will be two days sessions prior to the conference, and final presentations with participation by all other conference participants at conference workshops organized by the Young Professionals Management Training Programme, in particular a Future Leaders Workshop. These workshops will offer a general discussion and sharing of ideas and findings. The final outcome is a report for the programme. This report is normally presented at the Future Leaders Workshop.

The programme is tailor-made to the consulting industry, and an experienced senior consulting engineer acts as facilitator and is attached to the programme to secure timely progress and a high quality for inputs and outputs. FIDIC has established a Mentor Board for supervising and reviewing the programme.

Management topics will comprise some of the following types of issues:

■Growth and profit
■Development: new technologies, cultural changes, globalisation
■Ownership structures: partnership, employee owned, quoted shareholding and others
■Marketing of consulting services
■Organisation and human resources development.

As a starting point a number of thematic issues will be presented. These are based on working through moduioes of the FIDIC Business Practice Training Manual. Each issue will be debated by the participants over a given period, generally six weeks. Participants will be encouraged to present their own cases as an input to the process. For each theme a conclusion should be reached, with a "light" monitoring by the facilitator.

Key words for the process are: taking leadership, strategy, global perspective, change management, international networking.

The participants will meet shortly before and during the FIDIC Conference to discuss the conclusions reached. Furthermore, the facilitator is able to providing feed-back on the personal development of each participant.
